February has been a month of laid-back weekends for me. I’ve found myself in the mood for nothing more than relaxation, and last weekend was the epitome of that. Thankfully, I indulged in some much-needed rest – one can never be too refreshed, right? However, as fate would have it, this weekend, which happens to be the last weekend of the month turned out to be my busiest weekend so far this year.
Let’s get into what I got up to, shall we?
It all began with a casual text from a friend on Thursday, asking about my plans for Friday. My response of “Nothing much, really. I’ve got no plans” quickly led to an impromptu invitation to a concert. I found myself pleasantly surprised to be considered that friend who’s up for anything at the last minute – it only took 32 years to become that person!
The concert lineup featured Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, and Pitbull. Being a millennial, I was familiar with Pitbull’s songs and had a passing knowledge of Enrique’s hits, especially “Hero,” a track known to every cultured Nigerian over 30. Sensing the need for preparation, I spent Thursday evening immersing myself in Ricky Martin’s music – a decision that proved to be quite wise in hindsight.
After wrapping up work on Friday, I hurriedly got ready for the evening’s festivities. The struggle of choosing the perfect outfit ensued, eventually resulting in a chic ensemble comprising a turtleneck, long-sleeved top (which, unfortunately, proved to be too warm for the arena), leather shorts paired with tights, and knee-high boots. It was a look, if I may say so myself.
Meeting my friend at the bus stop, we made our way to the concert venue. Arriving a tad late, we found Enrique already onstage. We quickly rushed to our seats, which were surprisingly close to the stage. Despite my limited understanding of Spanish, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the performances. It was a testament to the universal language of music. Enrique looks like he hasn’t aged at all. Ricky Martin is sexy, and he knows it. Pitbull took me back to 2010-2012, and let me tell you, those were some unforgettable times!
Saturday
Saturday brought a new experience as my boyfriend and I attended a Lacrosse game for the first time. The match, featuring the Toronto Rock and the Vancouver Warriors, initially left me feeling a bit bewildered, especially as I’m not particularly fond of contact sports. However, as the game progressed, I found myself getting more and more into it, ultimately having a great time.
Sunday
Today is Sunday and I just spent my morning listening to a sermon by Pastor Steve Furtick and Holly. The unconventional delivery, more akin to a casual conversation, was refreshing and enjoyable. As the day unfolds, I plan to relax with my current read before gearing up for an evening of celebration – attending an engagement party. Reflecting on the whirlwind of the weekend, I couldn’t help but feel like I might need another full week just to recover. You can read more posts like this here.
