Hi Readers, If you’re new here, welcome to my bookish blog! If you’re not then it will come as no shock to you that I’m sharing this review as I mentioned in previous posts that I was going to read all of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books. I’ve read 4 in total now and I think I have 2 to go. In this post, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Carrie Soto is back.
My thoughts
“Carrie Soto is Back” explores the life of Carrie, a tennis legend. The book explores her journey from birth to becoming one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Carrie grew up playing tennis and was coached by her father. She had a wonderful career. Six years after retiring, she decides to make a return to reclaim her title. Although Carrie is not liked by most, evidenced by her nickname “battle axe,” everyone undoubtedly thinks her return might be a mistake. The book follows her journey through her return, taking it one game at a time. One of the things I loved about Carrie was her drive, but it’s so easy to get consumed with goals without enjoying the process. She reminded me of myself in that sometimes I don’t give myself grace and want things to go perfectly. Sometimes, all I really need to realize is that I’m already doing the best I possibly can, and sometimes that’s enough.
My favorite part of the book is her relationship with her father. He was her coach, and of course, that came with its own challenges, but love being at the core of their relationship was beautiful to see. I definitely enjoyed this one, even as someone who rarely watches tennis. I can’t imagine how enjoyable this would be for a tennis fan.
