Hey there!
It is with great displeasure that I write this post as I struggle to come to terms with the fact that summer is almost over. I say this all the time, but I can’t believe 2024 is coming to an end in just three months. Each season, I make a list of books I want to read, and most of the time, I end up reading less than half of them. Still, I find pleasure in curating these lists. In this post, I’ll be sharing my top picks for books I hope to read in fall.
In no particular order
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
This is probably my most anticipated read of the year. I loved Cleopatra and Frankenstein by the same author and immediately got a paperback copy of this book the day it was released.
And So I roar by Abi Dare
I read this author’s debut novel, The Girl with the Louding Voice, and didn’t quite like it. Hopefully, I’ll enjoy this one better. I thought it would be good to give the author another chance. I’m always open to reading Nigerian literature. I got a copy from my local library, so if I don’t enjoy it, I won’t feel too bad.
Funny Feelings by Tarah Dewitt
I’ve had this for months, and I think it gives off fall vibes. So, I thought it’d be a good addition to this list. I’m very much in my literary fiction era but also try to read romance novels every now and then.
We all want impossible things by Catherine Newman
I randomly found this at a second-hand bookstore, and the synopsis caught my eye. Plus, it was only $3.
Now you see us by Balli Kaur Jaswal
This is another random pick I made last weekend at another branch of the same second-hand store with my boyfriend. There’s a funny story behind it: We went to the Trinbago festival, but when we arrived at the venue, we realized we had mixed up the date. So, we decided to walk around and check out the stores around the area instead.
Bitter and sweet by Rhonda Mcknight
I stumbled upon this on Bookstagram and was immediately drawn in by the themes of sisterhood and a multigenerational family story. This will be my first read by this author, and I’m excited. I love discovering new authors and was glad to get a copy from my local library.
Intermezzo by Sally Rooney
I’m a huge Sally Rooney fan, so you can imagine my shock when I saw this on Libro this month. I’m thrilled to listen to the audiobook.
The Bee Sting by Paul Murray
Very rarely do I read books written by men. LOL Just kidding—I don’t necessarily avoid books by men, but I generally tend to read books written by women. I also saw a couple of reviews of this that got me intrigued.
The middle daughter by Chika Unigwe
I’ve read and really enjoyed books by this author before. This has been on my TBR list for months. I managed to get a copy from the library and hope to read it before I have to return it.
Talking at night by Claire Daverly
I came across two reviews of this on Goodreads with opposite opinions: one person hated it, and another loved it. If you know me, that’s enough to get me interested. I wonder where I’ll fall on the spectrum.
There you have it—my list of books to read this fall. Wishing everyone a cozy, warm, and lovely season!
